This is a real shake-up that could affect the American video game industry in the coming weeks. The US government is reportedly considering removing Tencent from gaming companies in the country.
A report in the Financial Times reveals that the White House could oust the Chinese giant. Tencent owns Riot Games, Turtle Rock Studios, and Klei Entertainment, and also holds a 38% stake in Pocket Gems and a 35% stake in Epic Games. Internationally, Tencent has stakes in several major groups such as Ubisoft, Shift Up, Techland, and FromSoftware.
The US government believes that these holdings could threaten national security.
