Last May, 1047 Games launched Splitgate 2 on consoles and PC. Unfortunately, the free-to-play shooter quickly ran into difficulties and controversy related to its microtransactions. The title ended up going back to beta, before being re-released on December 17 under the name SPLITGATE: Arena Reloaded.
Despite a new visual identity and additional content, the multiplayer arena game has clearly failed to attract new fans. On December 17, it peaked at 2,297 concurrent players on Steam. At the time of writing, the record is 887 people connected at the same time in the last 24 hours. This is a far cry from the 25,785 players recorded when Splitgate 2 was released in May.
The latest Steam reviews are still “mostly positive”. Users applaud the redesign, the smooth gameplay, and the wide range of weapons on offer. It remains to be seen whether this will be enough to save the game.
