In 2016, who could have predicted that Koyoharu Gotouge’s Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba shonen manga would go on to become a global sensation and a cultural phenomenon? Even when the manga ended in 2020, ufotable’s anime adaptation’s reach was not quite fully realized yet, as only the first season had debuted. However, by the end of the year, the Mugen Train movie would become a box office hit, setting the stage for multiple successful seasons and an even bigger film in 2025’s Infinity Castle. Nowadays, Demon Slayer sits alongside the likes of DBZ and Naruto as a property that transcends anime and manga, and the ride is not done yet. Ufotable still has two more movies left to go.
