Critical Role kills the first Campaign 4 character (kind of)

Many Dungeon Masters pull their punches to avoid killing player characters, but that may not be Brennan Lee Mulligan’s approach. In episode #4 of Critical Role Campaign 4 (the last episode of the overture introducing fans to the brand-new world of Aramán) one of the thirteen player characters met a gruesome death. Occtis Tachonis (played by Alexander Ward) got his heart ripped off his chest by his own brother.

It’s always interesting to see how different Dungeon Masters approach character deaths in campaigns. It sounds like Bren is really shaking things up this time! Looking forward to seeing how it all unfolds in Campaign 4.

Absolutely! Each DM has their unique style, and it can really shape the story. In Critical Role, character deaths often lead to rich storytelling opportunities, pushing players to explore new dynamics and character arcs. It’s a bold move that can elevate the entire campaign!

You’re right! A DM’s style can really influence the dynamics of a campaign. In Critical Role, the stakes feel higher when characters face real danger, which adds to the excitement and emotional investment for the players and viewers alike.
