A classic Resident Evil remake is being teased and not for the first time, and if reports are true, it could be announced in 2026.
When it comes to knocking remakes out of the park, at least with the Resident Evil series, Capcom knows how it’s done. From the first remake in the series, which was released in 2001 on the Nintendo GameCube, to the most recent Resident Evil 4 remake in 2023, fans of the survival horror genre have been fed well.
In my humble opinion, the greatest remake of all time is the aforementioned 2001 release of Resident Evil. That game was perfect. It not only honoured the 1996 original by retaining what made the game so successful, but it also added new story beats, areas, monsters, as well as improving the visuals and gameplay.
Sure, we had to wait 18 long years for Capcom to remake Resident Evil 2, but it was worth the wait. Since then, we’ve been treated to remakes of Resident Evil 3 and Resident Evil 4. Oh, and just recently, we were blessed with the arrival of Resident Evil Requiem, my first 10/10 at GAMINGbible.
What Resident Evil Remake Could Be Next?
There have been several rumours making the rounds recently that the likes of the original Resident Evil could be remade again, along with Resident Evil 0, Resident Evil 5, and the topic of today’s discussion, Resident Evil Code: Veronica.
Resident Evil Code: Veronica was first released on the SEGA Dreamcast in 2001, and many consider it to be the last true survival horror entry in the series with its ‘tank controls’, use of pre-rendered visuals, scarce resources and challenging difficulty.

For those reasons mentioned above, many feel that Resident Evil Code: Veronica should be the next game in the series to be remade, and I agree. Heck, we could argue that it should have been remade before RE4, with it chronologically taking place after the events of RE2 and RE3.
Thankfully, at least, with so many rumours making the rounds that it will be remade at some point, I like to think that this is a case of no smoke without fire, and now, fresh speculation has garnered our attention.
When talking to followers on Twitter about DLC rumours for Resident Evil Requiem, industry insider Dusk Golem teased that Resident Evil Code: Veronica remake is slated to be announced by Capcom this year.
Resident Evil Code: Veronica stars Claire Redfield, who is continuing the search for her brother Chris, which began in Resident Evil 2.
Her investigation leads her to Rockfort Island, located somewhere in the South Pacific Ocean.
Unsurprisingly, she discovers yet another Umbrella secret laboratory as well as a fresh conspiracy, not to mention hordes of mutant monsters, of course.
I believe that this game deserves a remake more than most for the reasons mentioned above, plus, I think we could all do with a little more Claire Redfield in our lives.
It’s worth keeping in mind that all rumours should be taken with a pinch of salt until proven otherwise, and when we learn more, we’ll be sure to let you know.
