CALX is a new sci-fi action adventure game with a gorgeous art style

It does seem like there’s a game announcement show every couple of hours, but, if you like video games, is that really a bad thing? This week, it’s been the Future Games Show, and amongst the announcements, one of the ones that really stood out to me was CALX from True Colors, published by Dear Villagers. This sci-fi adventure game looks absolutely stunning, and, in a nice surprise to everyone, you don’t have to wait for very long to check it out, with the game releasing on the 4th of June, 2026.

You control the Seeker, a little knight-like chap, who sets out to explore the planet of Syro, investigating what happened to the Quoth civilisation at the hands of the Warp. It’s a classic-sounding sci-fi setup, but the reason you’re going to be drawn to CALX is surely the unbelievable artstyle.

There’s a shared visual language with games like Sable and Rollerdrome, with its retrofuturistic art design likely to draw in crowds of players alone. The gameplay itself looks slightly more traditional, but I can’t wait to slice my way through the alien enemies and do some 3D platforming while exploring every inch of the gorgeous planet that True Colors have created.

True Colors are an indie developer based in Turin, Italy and were founded in 2022. CALX is their first game, and, interestingly, the game must have recently undergone a change of name, as the team’s website list it as XTAL instead. I guess, that’s still got most of the letters in it?

If you’re interested in finding out more about CALX, there’s currently a demo available on Steam right now, so you can go explore a bit of Syro for yourself, and immerse yourself in those incredible visuals. The demo includes around an hour of gameplay too, so there’s plenty to sink your teeth into!
