Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 Players Slam Always-Online Campaign for Lack of Checkpoints and Pausing

Activision’s latest addition to the Black Ops series is now available, and after only two hours, I can confirm: The Campaign is horrendous. However, those aren’t the only issues plaguing David Mason’s psychotropic psych eval as players discovered that there are no checkpoints in its missions.

That’s right. If you have to quit or even get disconnected from the campaign – and since it’s always online, that’s always a possibility – then you have to restart the whole mission, cutscenes and all, again. But it gets even worse – if you go AFK, then you’ll be kicked from the game, which can happen even while solo.

Those solo woes continue even further with the lack of pausing and AI squadmates. Despite this, Section 1 will still appear in cutscenes and speak over the radio. It’s like Destiny, but somehow even dumber and without difficulty options.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 is available for Xbox One, PS4, Xbox Series X/S, PS5, and PC, and currently holds a ā€œMixedā€ rating on Steam with 50 percent of 308 user reviews giving it a thumbs-up. Believe it or not, but development actually began around the same time as last year’s Black Ops 6.
