Gearbox having recently released a relatively minor update for Borderlands 4 has caught some criticism. While the update largely revolved around addressing a few small issues, like bugs related to interacting with Dr. Zed’s Meds and Guns vending machines and the Gravitar Class Mod Reactor not dropping from the right enemy, the update also seems to have brought back an exploit that allowed players to constantly score critical hits on their attacks.
It is worth noting that the glitch, referred to by the game’s community as the crit knife, was fixed as part of a larger update last week. However, the newer update has seemingly brought back the same bug. As spotted by players that have taken to posting video evidence on social media platforms, the crit knife, which boosts critical attack chance by 30 percent, can be thrown multiple times at the same enemy to result in a stacking boost to critical hit chance.
As one user noted, this means that throwing the knife at an enemy can get your critical hit rating up to 90 percent, with the remaining 10 percent being easily covered up with other gear to get essentially 100 percent critical hit chance.
“Gearbox just brought back the OG crit knife,” wrote X user EpicNNG. “How does this go through testing? We just see if the initial problem was fixed and don’t check for any downsides? Genuinely confused as to how this made it to pass.”
Borderlands 4 is available on PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X/S. The title is also planned for release on Nintendo Switch 2. However, the port has been delayed indefinitely for the time being as Gearbox figures out potential performance issues that could pop up.
Gearbox also recently announced that the first paid DLC for Borderlands 4 – Bounty Pack 1: How Rush Saved Mercenary Day – is slated for release on November 20. The DLC will have players taking on Minister Screw, who is trying to turn the upcoming Holiday season into a boring one. Alongside the story missions, the DLC will also bring with it the Vault card, which gives players a new avenue for unlocking cosmetics for their weapons and characters.
