BioShock 4 Resurfaces, Protagonist Switch Up Rumoured

A new BioShock 4 rumour is making the rounds regarding its protagonist, and it would be a first for the series if this were to happen.

When BioShock was first released in 2007, it instantly became one of the surprise hits in what was one of the best years in gaming. In 2007, we had the likes of Halo 3, Mass Effect, Assassin’s Creed, God of War II, and the list goes on.

I don’t want to say too much, just in case you’ve never played BioShock (if you haven’t, change that ASAP), but the moment you land in the underwater utopia, that is Rapture, it’s a gaming memory that will last a lifetime. And that’s not even taking into account its fun gameplay, memorable characters and shocking twists.

Bioshock is an All-Time Great

The fact that BioShock managed to stand out from its incredible competition is a testament to just how great this game was and still is to this very day. After all these years, I still dip into its 2016 remaster. BioShock has aged like a fine wine.

The last game in the series is BioShock Infinite, which was originally released in 2013 on PC, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. So, not taking into account the remasters, I think waiting more than a decade has been painful enough for us fans.

Thankfully, in 2019, 2K announced BioShock 4, and it would be developed by the new studio, Cloud Chamber. However, at least officially, we’ve had no update on the game, let alone being treated to a trailer or release date.

Earlier this year, concerns for BioShock 4 were increased after Cloud Chamber suffered company layoffs, sadly resulting in many employees losing their jobs.

BioShock 4 Rumours Surface

As brought to our attention by Comicbook.com, rumours are making the rounds that if BioShock 4 does actually release, for the first time in the series, it could have a playable female protagonist in a main game (not DLC), or that was the plan.

When talking on Daily Mail’s ‘The Respawn’, actress Adriyan Rae, who played the lead character in South of Midnight, said that she believes at some point, she may have worked on BioShock 4.

I know that is very vague, but it’s not uncommon for video game actors to record lines for a game they don’t know what it is. Often, games are so secretive and sensitive to potential leaks that the game might not even be revealed to the actor until much later.

During the interview, Rae said that the mystery game would see her play a lead character in a project that would feature telekinetic powers, and enemies could be thrown about. What’s more, her lines were recorded at a San Francisco studio near the Cloud Chamber HQ.

Of course, we should take this information with a pinch of salt, but it doesn’t feel like it’s outside the realm of possibility that the game Adriyan Rae was working on was BioShock 4.

I’d love for BioShock 4 to be revealed at The Game Awards tonight, but I won’t be holding my breath. Hopefully, we’ll at least get to see it at some point in 2026. Fingers crossed.
