A former developer at Bethesda has shared his thoughts on what story The Elder Scrolls VI might tell following the conclusion of Skyrim’s civil war.
Bethesda announced The Elder Scrolls VI during E3 2018, and the buzz of this reveal was felt across the world with devoted fans hoping that its release is just around the corner.
Granted, this trailer only featured a flyover of Tamriel and a logo, but it was exciting nonetheless. The hype levels are truly off the chart.
Let me put that into context for you. Since that reveal, not only does E3 no longer exist, but we’ve not had a release date, let alone an actual gameplay trailer.
One of the biggest questions fans have when it comes to The Elder Scrolls 6 is how one divisive decision in Skyrim might impact the story of The Elder Scrolls VI.
How Will The Elder Scrolls 6 Deal With Skyrim’s Civil War?
One potential angle that The Elder Scrolls VI might cross is being a direct sequel to the concluding events of 2011’s Skyrim, in which the player made a choice of what side of the Tamriel civil war they are on.
Without giving too much away, players choose between the Imperial Legion and the Stormcloak Rebellion.
If The Elder Scrolls VI does go the route of being a direct sequel, Bethesda may have to choose which Skyrim ending is canon, or, if possible, they could import a player’s choice from a save file.

Which Skyrim Ending Will Be Canon?
According to Press Box PR, former Bethesda developer Bruce Nesmith believes that there is another approach that could be made.
“I don’t know, but if I were to hazard a guess, and this is just purely a swag, I would say they will leave it undefined or leave it as neither side really won,” Nesmith said during an interview.
As far as I’m aware, Bethesda hasn’t outright confirmed which Skyrim ending is canon, which leads me to believe that both are equal.
In my opinion, as much as I would love to have my Skyrim save imported into The Elder Scrolls VI, I think Bethesda may choose the safe and less complicated route of not acknowledging either ending.
