Bethesda clarifies that the upcoming update is not some kind of Starfield 2.0

t’s now official: Starfield will launch on PS5 on April 7, 2026. On that date, the game will also welcome the Terran Armada DLC and a free update called Free Lanes. Howver, despite all these new features, don’t go and expect a complete overhaul of the game.

During a presentation of this content, Chief Creative Producer Timothy Lamb clarified that he does not view these additions as a sort of β€œStarfield 2.0.”

“No. I’d push back against that: there’s a narrative baked into what that label would mean. We looked at a number of systems where we had interest or had heard things from the community, and we tried to level up a number of them.

Free Lanes is huge, and getting it to work with all of the existing content we shipped at launch was significant. But I wouldn’t call it 2.0. A number of systems have been made incrementally better. We’ve added a ton of content. It’s the best version of Starfield. “

What’s more, Lamb also stated that there are further updates planned following the release of Free Lanes.

“Nothing to announce today, but there’s a lot more in the lore, things the team is excited about, things we still want to pursue. We’re still working on Starfield.”
