Fetch quests aren’t exactly the most popular feature of open-world RPGs, but they’re a classic part of the genre. Many of the biggest games out there feature them to some degree, and you’ll be hard-pressed to find a title that has few or none of them and still features robust RPG mechanics and gameplay. However, games like Elden Ring that have a more obscure questing system, as well as Kenshi and Outward, prove that it’s possible to make something of quality without sending players off to fetch an NPC’s missing family heirloom shield from a cave.
