A pair of fan-favorite Sega PS2 games have unexpectedly been made available for free to everyone, and not by the publisher. Someone decided to port Super Monkey Ball 1 and 2 to a web browser, and they run surprisingly well. So go ahead and sink some time into them before Sega’s lawyers wake up.
Super Monkey Ball games were ported to PS2 in 2005, now free to play in your browser
As brought to our attention by PushSquare, a solo dev who goes by the name “Twilight” on Bluesky brought both Super Monkey Ball games to web browsers, and here’s how you can access them:
If you want the direct web address, it’s https://monkeyball-online.pages.dev/
The games can also be accessed via mobile browsers, and Twilight says they’ve just pushed out an update to improve the mobile experience.
Super Monkey Ball 1 and 2 originally released in 2001 and 2002, respectively, but it wasn’t until 2005 that the games were ported to the PS2. Super Monkey Ball Deluxe earned a positive response from players and critics alike.
The latest game in the long-running series, Super Monkey Ball Banana Rumble, released in 2024 exclusively for the Nintendo Switch. PS5 players will have to make do with 2021’s Super Monkey Ball Banana Mania for now.
