Skateboarding games are in a resurgence. Earlier this year, we got Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3 + 4. Just last month, we got the anticipated return of Skate. And in a couple more months, Skate Story will finally shred onto PS5 consoles, bringing its own unique take on the genre.
Skate Story finally gets a PS5 release date
Solo developer Sam Eng and lauded video game publisher Devolver Digital announced that Skate Story will finally be released on December 8 for PS5. For PlayStation players who also have a decent gaming PC, a free demo is available on Steam right now. Check out the trailer below to see the newest footage of 2025’s next skateboarding video game.
“You are a demon in the Underworld, made out of glass and pain,” reads the game’s description. “The Devil has given you a skateboard with a simple deal: Skate to the Moon and swallow it — and you shall be freed.”
“Skate fast to destroy vicious demons, help a forgetful frog, and save other tortured souls on your journey from fragile beginner to hardened skater,” continues the description. “Push through hell and discover The Devil’s greatest weakness: humility, perseverance, and a disgustingly sweet backside tailslide.”
Skate Story will feature nine layers of the Underworld players can skate through as they attempt one of 70+ skate tricks. Players will be able to sell their souls for different decks, wheels, and trucks. Players can also complete trials to obtain new gear. The soundtrack will feature New York artist Blood Cultures, with additional tracks from John Fio.
As of this writing, there is a PS Store page for Skate Story, but it can’t be preordered. Players can add it to their wishlist.
Skate Story is just one of a few Devolver Digital games to release this year. One of its most anticipated, Baby Steps, finally released on PS5 last month.
