EA’s answer to Call Of Duty: Warzone is available now on console and PC, as Battlefield Redsec is revealed via its first trailer.
A free-to-play battle royale spin-off from Battlefield 6 has been an open secret for a while, but only yesterday did EA formally reveal its name – Battlefield Redsec – and a release date.
That release date is, in fact, today and coincides with the start of Battlefield 6’s first season of post-launch content. All of which is live right now.
While there’s been plenty of rumours surrounding how Battlefield Redsec will work, we’ve compiled all the official info shared by EA to help you understand what it’s all about.
What is Battlefield Redsec?
Battlefield Redsec is essentially a battle royale version of Battlefield, complete with the series’ trademark destruction effects.
You and 99 other players drop into a large map – one EA touts as the largest in the entire series – to gather loot, complete objectives, and be the last one standing while a fiery ring of death encloses and kills anyone unfortunate enough to be caught by it.

When you start, there is a Battle Royale Initiation option that features a smaller version of the map and limits the number of players to 48. This is designed for newcomers as an introduction to how the mode works.
When does Battlefield Redsec go live?
Battlefield Redsec is already available to download and play right now, as you’re reading this, having gone live at 3pm GMT on Tuesday, October 28.
We had a quick go and it all seems to be working fine, although the matchmaking seems a bit random, as we ended up with a bunch of newbies and one guy who was rank 22.
Do you need to own Battlefield 6 to play Battlefield Redsec?
No, Battlefield Redsec is a free-to-play experience and you don’t need to own Battlefield 6 to play it.
The download includes what is described as Battlefield 6 but is really just the menu system and interface, with options to ‘upgrade’ to the paid-for campaign and multiplayer.
Redsec is separate to all that and not only is it free to download but you don’t need PlayStation Plus or Game Pass Essential.
How to download Battlefield Redsec
Battlefield Redsec is available on all the same platforms as Battlefield 6, which is to say PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC.
To download it just go to the store on your format of choice and select it. It’s there right now on PlayStation Store, Xbox Store, and Steam.
What else does Battlefield Redsec include besides the battle royale mode?
Battlefield Redsec does have a second gameplay mode called Gauntlet, which splits players into eight teams of four and has them ‘compete in a series of dynamic round-based missions in a tournament style format.’
Each round gives you five minutes to complete your given objectives, with squads that fail being eliminated until only one is left.
In Redsec, you can also access the Battlefield Portal at no extra cost, where you can create your own custom maps and gameplay modes.
Does Battlefield Redsec have a battle pass?
Yes, there is a battle pass for Battlefield Redsec that is also shared across Battlefield 6, so you can make progress in the pass by playing either game and any content you unlock applies to both, with some exceptions like certain vehicle skins not appearing in Redsec.
The battle pass is completely free, although there is a paid option called Battlefield Pro that lets you skip up to 25 tiers and includes some exclusive extras, such as:
- ‘Ignition’ Pax Armata Engineer Soldier Skin
- ‘Tactician’ NVO-228E Weapon Package
- ‘True Dominion’ Cheetah 1A2 Vehicle Skin
- ‘Cross Point’ KBR Mark II Combat Knife Melee Skin
- ‘Air Defence’ Player Card Background
- XP Booster
- +5% extra XP for BF Pro owners
You can find more details on EA’s website but, at the time of writing, Battlefield Pro isn’t available for purchase so there’s no pricing. We’ll update this article once we know how much EA charges for it.
