Battlefield: RedSec isn’t receiving the warmest welcome from players after launch, with a “Mostly Negative” rating on Steam. However, community frustration is exacerbated by Season 1 of Battlefield 6 and its first new map, Blackwell Fields.
Already considered the “worst map in Battlefield history,” players have expressed concerns over its size and the terrible sightlines. One Reddit user noted how they would have direct vision of other players capturing points as soon as they spawn in. “You get shot at from every angle on this map; there’s never a break. People can just spawn and start shooting you straight away.”
While Blackwell Fields is on the larger side (a frequent request from fans considering the base game’s maps), many aren’t enjoying the overall design. “It’s a flat map with some oil wells and a nice sky box,” said another user. This manifests in another significant flaw: Helicopters targeted by anti-aircraft guns while still within their own base. Recon Class players will likely have fun but other classes are plain out of luck.
DICE hasn’t issued any statements on the map itself and how it plans to address feedback, but there’s more to come in Season 1. On November 18th, a second new map, Eastwood, will go live and apparently accommodates combat of all sizes. Whether it provides a PvP experience that’s worth playing remains to be seen.
Battlefield 6 is available for Xbox Series X/S, PS5, and PC. Check out our review of the base game.
