If you haven’t yet played Battlefield 6, EA is letting everyone try out various multiplayer modes for free later this month.

After selling over seven million copies within three days, Battlefield 6 has had the most successful launch in the franchise’s history.

Since then, EA has launched the free battle royale mode RedSec and kicked off its first season. The player numbers have inevitably dropped since launch, but it’s still maintaining a healthy pace with a 223,403 concurrent player peak on PC over the past 24 hours (via SteamDB).

EA is hoping to keep the momentum going through a newly announced free trial period for Battlefield 6, which kicks off later this month.

From Tuesday, November 25, a chunk of Battlefield 6’s multiplayer will be free to everyone for one week until December 2.

As outlined by EA, five modes will be available during the free trial period, including the game’s large-scale signature modes, Conquest and Breakthrough, alongside Team Deathmatch and the newly added Sabotage. This limited-time 8v8 mode sees two teams try to destroy as many bomb sites as possible.

The main drawback is there’ll only be three maps available, namely Cairo, Blackwell Fields (added at the start of season one), and the recently launched Eastwood, set in Los Angeles.

Despite the limited pool of maps, it’s still a generously long free trial period at such an early stage, with others like Call Of Duty usually only offering free trial weekends.

The announcement of a free-to-play week comes as Battlefield 6 rolls out its California Resistance update, which is the second phase of season one. Along with the Eastwood map and Sabotage mode, this update adds a new Gauntlet mission for RedSec and Battle Pickups, aka strong weapons you can find in caches around maps.

The final phase of season one is Winter Offensive, which is set to launch on December 9. This will include a new icy variation of the Empire State map and a limited-time event centred around a temperature-managing Freeze mechanic.

While it’s unclear at this stage how well Battlefield 6 has done in comparision to the recently launched Call Of Duty: Black Ops 7, all signs suggest EA’s shooter may have stolen some of Activision’s thunder.
