Baldur’s Gate 3 Subclass Addition Brings Much Needed New Theme

This Baldur’s Gate 3 subclass mod has transformed the Bard class into an ice-focused Wizard build, complete with six unique performance-based skills.

I think I speak for everyone when I say that the Bard class is the best class in Baldur’s Gate 3.

To clarify, it’s definitely not the strongest class in the game – that honour probably goes to the Monk subclass Way of the Drunken Master, which borderline trivialises the game (even on Honor Mode).

However, Bards definitely have the most fun, especially from a roleplay perspective. The fact that you can bring The Absolute to its knees by strumming a lute is extremely faithful to the Dungeons & Dragons experience.

But if you fancied mixing things up in your next Bard playthrough, by transforming the class into the icy equivalent of a tactical nuke, then I have just the right mod for you.

College of Winter’s Wail – Bard Subclass is a new mod over on Nexus Mods from GIGeorge95, and it’s already earning itself some serious praise (even though it’s barely 24 hours old at the time of writing this article).

The title is probably self-explanatory enough, but the College of Winter’s Wail mod adds a fresh, ice-based subclass to the game that features several custom spells and visual effects.

The coolest part of the mod is the level 3 “Chilling Performance” feature, which features six unique, “ice-dancer” performances for the Bard class.

If you ask me, though, the best spell is tucked away at the end of level 14.

“The Final Crescendo” gives you a second chance at victory, as upon dropping to 1 HP, you will no longer be downed and will instead explode before getting back up.

This sounds ridiculously overpowered, which I’m all for. You can only pull it off once per Long Rest though, so I suppose it’s somewhat balanced.

I’m not the only one who’s impressed, because the folks over in the Nexus Mods comments section have nothing but nice things to say about GIGeorge95’s mod.

“This looks fantastic. Really creative twist on bard spells,” commented user BasementCat13.

“I really like the theme of this! The inclusion of performance checks with chilling performance is such a nice touch. Thank you and Happy New Year,” replied user Poppeii.

I’m kinda tempted to see if there are any Frozen mods on Nexus for Baldur’s Gate 3 now, because this just seems like it would be so perfect for an Elsa playthrough.

I suppose I’d need an Olaf skin for Gale, too…
