Baldur’s Gate 3 Mod Adds Legally-Distinct Poké Balls To Capture NPCs

Baldur’s Gate 3 players can now catch all of the game’s NPCs inside pokéballs, as if there weren’t enough ways to terrorise the realms. Here’s how to get the mod and what it does.

With its Dungeon & Dragons-inspired gameplay Baldur’s Gate 3 has a lot of potential for silliness provided players are willing to get a little devious with their characters. You could adopt a straight-edge style of gameplay but why would when being a menace is so much more fun?

The Binding Arcane Lattice Lock mod, or B.A.L.L for short, will let you do just that but before we get into what it does a bit of context is needed first.

During your travels you might come across a peculiar container called the Iron Flask. Its description teases that it can capture and imprison both allies and enemies, and when you find it you’ll quickly discover that someone’s already trapped inside.

To free its captive you need to throw it and when it breaks the enemy within will pop out and attack you, because who wouldn’t after being trapped in a flask for God knows how long? It makes for a cool interaction but it’s offset by the disappointment that it’s a one-time thing, and you don’t get to imprison anyone yourself with the flask.

How to Download Baldur’s Gate Pokeball Mod

Modder ForKiramay wasn’t going to let that slide though, and has released the B.A.L.L mod which uses the same mechanic. They’re basically pokéballs but obviously not called as such to avoid copyright infringement.

They do the exact same thing though and there’s no limit to who or how many NPCs you choose to imprison with this sweet, new mechanic.

If you’re not cool with Astarion nibbling on your neck back at camp (although you should be) you can put him in timeout inside one of the balls.

If another NPC is taking the wrong tone with you, you can teach them a lesson by catching them and leaving them in a cupboard or something.

If you fancy a demonstration, ForKiramay has a video on YouTube showing the fake pokéballs in action. Check it out here, it’s hilarious.

The temptation to catch your entire party with these devices is very strong. You could send them out one by one in battle like actual pokémon, taking them back to camp to heal up when they “faint”.

There’s a lot of potential for silliness here and I’m excited to see what players do with the mod.
