Baldur’s Gate 3 Meets Dark Souls In New Free Steam RPG

RPG fans will want to check out this new free game that’s just launched on Steam, which has all the flavours of Dark Souls and Baldur’s Gate 3 about it.

Annulus, described as a “unique dark fantasy tactical game”, features imagery and gameplay inspired by Dark Souls and Baldur’s Gate 3, with a heavier emphasis towards the latter in terms of combat.

Powered by Unreal Engine 5, the game combines its dark fantasy storytelling with “an epic, grand-scale worldbuilding approach”.

You take on the role of a mercenary captain, who has been assembling other mercenaries to form their own legion with unique weapons and traits. After assembling this party, you battle across the continent of Novisess for survival and glory.

It’s during these combat encounters that you’ll find a variety of different races—Orcs, Elves, and Humans—who have each given rise to countless uniquely designed mercenaries.

As you level up your mercenaries, you can improve their skills and attributes, allowing them to grow stronger as you face increasingly difficult opponents. You can use this to tap into the unique playstyles and combat forms that allow you to build out a team with specialised abilities.

Additionally, the main characters also gain new powers and forms inspired by their narrative backgrounds.

Annulus Has Lots Of Content For You To Play

Beyond the main story, the game also includes a bunch of different side quests and stories for you to run through. As developer NIRVANA states, “every choice you make can shift the direction of the narrative—and may even trigger entirely new ‘battle events,’ deepening the medieval fantasy immersion.”

As well as Baldur’s Gate 3 and Dark Souls, Annulus is also inspired by “the gritty, hard-edged warfare of the medieval era and infused with classic Lovecraftian visual elements”, but keeps the focus on distinct dark-fantasy tactical gameplay.

If you’d like to check our Annulus, you can grab it for free on Steam.
