Baldur’s Gate 3 players, you may want to think about starting a fresh character soon. A brand new fan-made campaign is coming in 2026, and it sounds like it’ll be massive.
Baldur’s Gate 3 was certainly one of the biggest games released in 2023, and its reach was so far that even those who aren’t fans of tabletop RPGs wanted in on the action.
It was also the type of game with a seemingly near-endless amount of content. Players who have made multiple characters and put hundreds of hours into the game are still finding new things to discover.
Still, even if you have run out of things to do in Baldur’s Gate 3, this new fan-made campaign coming next year might be the kick you need to try a fresh save.
The expansion, titled Path to Menzoberranzan, is entirely separate from the events and characters of Baldur’s Gate 3. Instead, it’ll feature new locations, characters, and an original story.
As you can probably tell from the name, the expansion takes place in Menzoberranzan, the large underground drow city in the Upper Northdark.

Is Larian involved with Path to Menzoberranzan?
Larian Studios, the original developer of Baldur’s Gate 3, is not involved in the development of this expansion. Following the release of the game in 2023, the studio said that while it did consider making DLC, it instead decided to focus on new projects.
Path to Menzoberranzan is instead being made by a large team of over 130 modders, and will feature new characters and custom voice-acting. Whether or not the expansion will make reference to the party and events of Baldur’s Gate 3 remains to be seen.
The mod is expected to launch in an alpha-state in the “first half of 2026”, so it sounds like it’ll be following in the footsteps of Baldur’s Gate 3 by having an early access period. This will give the team time to iron out any bugs, as well as gather feedback which could influence the final release.
With the team still actively recruiting modders and voice actors though, it sounds like this could still be a ways off. You can follow progress by heading to the project’s Discord page.
Altogether, it sounds like it’ll be a great chance to revisit Baldur’s Gate 3, and see a fresh new take on the world of Forgotten Realms by a new group of developers.
