Avatar: Fire and Ash has already grossed $345 million at the box office

Avatar: Fire and Ash, the third film in James Cameron’s saga, opened with approximately $345 million in worldwide box office receipts on its opening weekend, with $88 million in the United States and the rest internationally, making it one of the best releases of 2025.

However, compared to Avatar: The Way of Water (2022), the second film, its box office is lower, particularly in the domestic market. The film has received more mixed reviews than its predecessors, with a lower score on aggregators. Despite this, it remains a significant success, helped by international markets and the holiday season.

The future of Avatar 4 (and 5) will largely depend on the sustainability of Fire and Ash’s revenue beyond the opening weekend, as these sequels are not yet officially guaranteed. James Cameron has stated that if the film does not generate enough revenue, he may consider ending the franchise or exploring other narrative formats.
