Atari has announced that they are once again going back into their catalogue of consoles for another re-release, and this time it’s a modernized Intellivision Sprint.

After 45 years since its original release, Atari has decided that on the 45th anniversary of the Intellivision, it’s time for the retro console to make a comeback. Atari today announced the Intellivision Sprint, a new retro gaming console similar to their 2600 launch, featuring 45 pre-loaded titles to coincide with the console’s 45th anniversary. The Intellivision Sprint is a new way to play the retro Intellivision console without needing an excavator or a time machine, and an announcement trailer can be seen below.

Ironically, the original Intellivision was released in 1980 as a direct competitor to the Atari 2600 (and now Atari is re-releasing the console), and the Intellivision sparked a rivalry that became known as the ‘First Console War.’ Intellivision offered contemporary players more realistic sports games, richer graphics and unique controllers when compared to the Atari 2600, and it’s only fitting that the retro console has a re-release alongside its main competition. Atari has also named all 45 titles that come with the Intellivision Sprint, and they’re listed below.
