Sometimes a game is so exceptional that it leaves you willing to play whatever the developers behind it make next. That’s how I felt in 2020 when I played Spiritfarer, an emotional indie created by Thunder Lotus Games. The story about ferrying spirits into the afterlife impacted me deeply enough that I decided to keep close tabs on the studio from then on. When its next game, the multiplayer-focused 33 Immortals, wasn’t what I was expecting, I wondered if Spiritfarer would just be a one-off kind of success. That thought only continued when I saw the trailer for its next game,At Fate’s End. The 2D action game looked stylish enough, but at a glance, I just wasn’t convinced that it would be as distinct and memorable as Spiritfarer was. Boy, was I wrong.
