Assassin’s Creed Valhalla Free Remaster Is a Feast for the Eyes

If you fancy playing through Assassin’s Creed Valhalla again with a slightly shinier coat of paint, then you’re in luck! And it’s, as per usual, all thanks to the modding community behind the game.

If there’s one thing it’s difficult to criticise Ubisoft’s Assassin’s Creed series for, it’s the visuals.

Pretty easy to criticise Ubisoft for everything else, however, which is why they’re not the ones to thank for today’s latest Assassin’s Creed Valhalla overhaul.

Everyone’s favourite at-home, DIY remasterer Digital Dreams is back, with a brand new visual update for the game, as displayed in full 8K definition using an RTX 5090.

Admittedly, it does look incredible. Little bit on the overly bright side, but hey, I suppose you could just turn the brightness down yourself (or wear sunglasses while you play).

Fair warning, obviously Digital Dreams is using a PC from the year 2040 to run this. Jokes aside, they do detail their build in the video description, and you’re gonna need to shell out some serious cash if you want to own a PC that can compete with theirs.

If you do own a rig worth something equivalent to a secondhand BMW 5 Series, though, where exactly would you be able to download the modlist or shaders capable of making Assassin’s Creed Valhalla look this good? I have no idea.

Alright, well, I can make an educated guess, but, unfortunately, that’s the best you’re going to get for now.

Digital Dreams hasn’t revealed exactly which mods they’ve used to get it to look this shiny, but I think there’s a good chance that at least one of them is this: Enhanced Assassins Creed Valhalla, by Awesome Mods over on Nexus Mods.

I am guessing here, but the screenshots from Awesome Mods’ mod do seem to line up with Digital Dreams’ video. Plus, the mod is relatively fresh, having dropped less than two months before Digital Dreams released their video.

Hopefully, if there is a bit more to the end result than a single shader preset mod, Digital Dreams will release the full modlist for Assassin’s Creed Valhalla in the near future. After all, it would be awfully rude of them to tease us like this and not follow through with it.

Or, you could just wait for that Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag remaster that was leaked a while back instead. I’m sure it’ll drop any day now…
