
You may not instantly be familiar with the name Alexandre Amancio, but youâve perhaps played Assassinâs Creed Revelations and Assassinâs Creed Unity.
Amancio served as creative director on both projects, and now heâs broken away from Ubisoft to lead development as Lison-based studio Studio Ellipsis which has just dropped gameplay for an exciting upcoming horror extraction title.
Nightholme describes itself as a PvPvE âhorror hunt gameâ thatâs coming to both PC and console.
Three rival teams will battle it out as they hunt down terrifying Nightwalkers as well as transform into deadly monsters themselves as they âfight to prevail against other players and an ever-shifting high-risk environmentâ.

It must be said, itâs a pretty original idea blending the horror and extraction shooter genres making it hard to draw any comparisons between Nightholme and existing games.
That being said, there is a major feeling of Bloodborne about Nightholmeâs nightmarish creature designs that are sure to give fans of that dormant franchise a kick.
You can play both solo or in a group where youâll assume the role of a Grimrunner.
Youâll begin in a camp on the edge of town known as Last Ground with each player drinking Nocturn which determines the archetype youâll transform into that round; in other words, it determines your abilities.

Every session begins with 12 players but itâs up to you whether you choose to assist or betray your fellow Grimrunners.
When the session begins, you can choose to hunt the Gloomfiend (an enemy boss), claim a Terror Seed, pursue faction quests, scavenge, level up, or interfere with the actions of others.
The stronger the enemies you defeat and more altars you interact with, the more powerful you become.
If you gain enough power, you can transform from a Grimrunner into a Grimspawn. Grimspawns tend to dominate encounters so itâs a goal youâll perhaps want to pursue.
That Terror Seed I mentioned is the gameâs most valuable object. It can be converted into currency, putting you in a much better position for the next round, plus youâll get unique skills.
Excitingly, Nightholme is due to hold an alpha test on PC this summer with players able to sign up now.
“We’re not the first ones to say this; making games is hard. By sharing more about Nightholme at pre-alpha, our goal is to break down some of the barriers between devs and community,â Amancio said in a press release.
âBeing âcommunity firstâ should mean that the community has a say when it matters most, and it’s a promise we’re committed to upholding.
âSome of us at Studio Ellipsis have built worlds for years. For some, Nightholme is their first. What unites us is simple: we believe games should feel unpredictable again.
