PS Store scam

Sony has cracked down on another “studio” behind several PS Store scam games that conned players out of their money. Called GamesMM Studios, this developer most recently published a copy of popular PC game Megabonk on the PS Store, which quite a few players fell for.

PS Store scam dev ‘GamesMM Studios’ cloned several popular games

As spotted by players over on PSNProfiles, several scams by GamesMM Studios have now been nuked from the PS Store, and the one that remains has been renamed, possibly to avoid to a complete ban by Sony.

Besides Megabonk Smash, the removed games include CloverPit Gamble (CloverPit clone) and Quarantine Lockdown Simulator: Zombie Border (Quarantine Zone clone).

The game that has been renamed is a copy of popular climbing game Peak. The clone was originally titled “Peak Climb,” but has since been renamed to “Cozy Climbing Game.”

Back in August, Sony promised to improve the PS Store. While the company understandably didn’t admit to having a massive shovelware problem, it did say that improvements are on their way “with the ultimate goal of making it easier for players to find their next favorite game.”

So far, shady devs have been far more successful at dodging Sony than Sony has been at implementing its own terms and conditions for PS Store submissions.
