Nintendo has made a totally unexpected announcement! Almost six years after its initial launch, Animal Crossing: New Horizons will receive new features next year.
Let’s start with Animal Crossing: New Horizons Nintendo Switch 2 Edition, which will be released on January 15, 2026. This version will feature improved definition and higher-quality textures. The Joy-Con 2 mouse mode will be used to help us decorate our homes, move furniture, and even create personal designs.
The shop will also have a new item on sale for 3,500 bells: the megaphone. It will be used to call the inhabitants of our island using the Switch 2’s built-in microphone. In addition, multiplayer mode will no longer be limited to 8 players per island, but to 12. We will be able to chat with our friends via GameChat.
Animal Crossing: New Horizons Nintendo Switch 2 Edition will be sold in physical and digital formats for €64.99. The upgrade from the Switch version to the Switch 2 version will cost €4.99.
On January 15, 2026, the free 3.0 update for the game will be released on both consoles. It will add a hotel located on the pier of our island, where we will be able to decorate rooms or even create themed ones.
This patch will also add the ability to expand our storage space to hold up to 9,000 items instead of 5,000. Resetti the mole will also be able to come and clear land. A more significant addition will come in the form of « Serena’s Dream World ». There, players will be able to customize up to three private islands. Other players can be invited to visit without disturbing the main island.
Finally, special collaborations are planned. Retro toys and even classic Nintendo consoles will be featured in Animal Crossing: New Horizons. By subscribing to Nintendo Switch Online, users will be able to play a selection of classic games on these machines.
