Amazon ends development of its MMORPG New World

Available on PC since 2021 and on consoles since 2024, New World had it all to become a strong competitor in the MMORPG market. Sadly, barely four years later, the dream is over already.

After announcing significant budget cuts and 14,000 layoffs in its gaming division, Amazon has declared that development of New World is over. The recently deployed Season 10 will be the last one and there will be no more new content.

“After four years of steady content updates and a major new console release, we’ve reached a point where it is no longer sustainable to continue supporting the game with new content updates. The recently launched Season 10 and Nighthaven update will serve as the final content release for New World on PC and consoles. It is only after much consideration that we’ve reached this decision.”

New World: Aeternum is still available on PlayStation Plus Extra, and the servers for it will remain open until 2026. We’ll know more on the matter soon enough. However, we can expect the servers to bow out permanently next year.
