Artificial intelligence is still making headlines… And that’s not likely to stop in 2026. Now it’s the turn of Akihiro Hino, CEO of Level-5 (Professor Layton, Fantasy Life i, Inazuma Eleven), to weigh in on the subject.

In a recent interview, he highlighted the rise of generative artificial intelligence in video game development. According to his estimates, 80 to 90% of titles currently in production use AI-based tools. These are used in various areas such as programming and asset creation.

“While I am also actively working as a developer, Iโ€™ve recently found myself thinking that AI technology is encroaching upon the creative world.”

“Currently, around 80~90% of codes are written by AI and then fixed up and finalized by human programmers. In other words, it means that right now, around 80~90% of games are made by AI.”

“And it does not just stop at programming โ€“ AI technology is encroaching on art, music and even game design on a large scale. Not to mention that itโ€™s already becoming common sense in the creative world to rely on the power of AI to boost work efficiency.”

“That is why I believe that ‘aesthetic senseยก is a necessary skill for game developers.”

It should be noted that Level-5 is known to frequently use AI in its productions. For example, ChatGPT has been used to design characters, VOICEVOX to generate temporary dialogues, and Stable Diffusion to generate 2D and 3D elements for a game.
