According to the Arrowhead CEO, the director of the Helldivers movie doesn’t need to play the game

Earlier this week, The Hollywood Reporter revealed that the Helldivers movie will be directed by Justin Lin, also known for directing several Fast and Furious and Star Trek films.

While this announcement may seem positive at first glance, part of the gaming community was quick to express outrage that the director has never played Helldivers. However, the CEO of ArrowHead Studio says:

“I have confidence in Justin. […] He did an excellent job on the Star Trek movie.”

For your information, the Helldivers movie is being produced by Sony Pictures and PlayStation Productions. Justin Lin is also involved through his company, Perfect Storm Entertainment.

We’ll have to wait until the movie hits the theaters to know how it all ends!

It’s interesting to see how films adapt video game content, and the perspective on the director not needing to play the game adds an intriguing layer to the discussion. Looking forward to seeing how the movie turns out!

It really is fascinating! The success of a movie based on a video game often hinges on how well it captures the essence of the original while bringing a fresh narrative. It’ll be interesting to see how the director interprets the game’s themes and characters without having played it firsthand.
