Something quite big has just rocked the field of artificial intelligence. Available in its first version in February 2024, Sora allows users to create videos from scratch using AI.
This week, its owner, OpenAI, announced to everyone’s surprise that the platform would be shutting down.
“We’re saying goodbye to the Sora app. To everyone who created with Sora, shared it, and built community around it: thank you. What you made with Sora mattered, and we know this news is disappointing.
We’ll share more soon, including timelines for the app and API and details on preserving your work.”
The Hollywood Reporter also claims that The Walt Disney Company has withdrawn its $1 billion investment in OpenAI. In 2025, the entertainment giant had agreed to grant a license for the use of several of its characters in Sora.
