Bandai Namco and developer Media.Vision have announced that a major DLC expansion is in development for Digimon Story Time Stranger, though you’ll have to wait until 2027 before it will launch.
That’s a fairly hefty wait for fans of the game, which launched in 2025, but Time Stranger producer Ryosuke Hara did share that Aegiomon voice actor Mutsumi Tamura will be returning for this. When pushed on if this would mean that the story has to take place in either a parallel world or in the future, Hara answered, “What an excellent line of reasoning. A really excellent question! And that’s all I have to say.”
In the lead up to Digimon Con 2026, Bandai Namco had asked players to choose their favourite Digimon from a shortlist of 35, with the top picks being Gammamon, Loogamon, Kazemon, Gumdramon and Pulsemon. The results from this will tie into the expansion, with Hara saying, “We’re already in development, and while not everything from the Digi Referendum results we just announced will be making it in, after taking into consideration the world-building for this new expansion and future Digimon games, we will be partially reflecting those results.”
It might be a while to wait, but this is great news for fans of Digimon. We had a great time with Digimon Story: Time Stranger, with Jason saying in our review “I really, really like Digimon Story Time Stranger. While it’s hardly upending the monster collection and battling genre, it’s a really comfortable and enjoyable game that feels reminiscent of watching Saturday morning cartoons as a kid. It’s an awful lot of fun, and is right up there as one of my favourite games of the year.”
Digimon Story: Time Stranger is out now for PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC, with a Switch and Switch 2 port set for 10th July.
Elsewhere, Bandai Namco announced a new mobile game Digimon Up, in which you raise partner Digimon and battle them, rendered in a sprite pixel art style. Digimon Up is set to launch sometime in 2026.
