Developer Gameplay Group has announced a new 1v1 fighting game, Avatar Legends: The Fighting Game. It’s coming to PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Switch 2, PS4, and PC via Steam in Summer 2026.
The animation and art style of the source material appear faithfully recreated in this fighter, which will feature 12 playable characters at launch. The developers plan to support the game post-launch with additional characters through a seasonal model.
Seven characters revealed so far
The first gameplay trailer showcased Aang, Korra, and Zuko, and also teased Toph, Katara, Azula, and Sokka. This lineup currently covers the most obvious choices from Avatar: The Last Airbender, with Korra being the only representative from The Legend of Korra.
The game will feature what the developer calls the “Flow System”, which centers around “movement centric gameplay”. Not much is known beyond this, but it looks like they are building a mechanic that complements the concept of elemental bending. If that were the case, I couldn’t help but wonder how Sokka would play as he’s currently the only non-bender in the cast.
Avatar Legends: The Fighting Game will feature combo trials, a gallery mode, a single-player campaign with its own original narrative, and best of all, netcode and cross-play support on launch.
