Absolum, the latest beat ’em up by Dotemu, seems to be a hit with the press

Although it didn’t generate much buzz before it came out for the PS4, PS5, Switch, and PC on October 9, 2025, Absolum seems to be one of the best surprises of the end of the year. Of course, the press’ reviews are all praising the quality of Dotemu’s title.

Absolum‘s Metacritic average currently stands at 86% on PC (36 reviews) and 86% on PS5 (11 reviews). On Opencritic, the game scored 87% with 44 reviews. It’s a resounding success, and the scores could still climb higher.

Reviewers have been quick to praise the game’s great style, simple and enjoyable gameplay, four complementary characters, and roguelite aspect that manages to make it all feel fresh. The co-op mode is also a nice touch.

As for minor flaws, it’s worth noting that the narrative is a little weak, the action is sometimes messy, and the enemies are forgettable.
