Stardew Valley Vibes Are Strong in New RPG You Can Try Free Now

Pixel graphics are all the rage, and I honestly think in part that’s down to the success of Stardew Valley.

Certainly, it’s far from the only game to utilise the art style, but its popularity perhaps proved to other developers that it can be very lucrative to tap into that nostalgic simplicity.

Upcoming indie RPG Creator Chronicles definitely looks to have taken inspiration from the beloved title despite offering a very different gameplay loop.

Well, there are a few other similarities.

Within Creator Chronicles, you’ll grow your own village but there’s quite a bit more to it.

Developer Origin Studio describes it as “a game within a game”.

“In this brand-new simulation RPG, become a guild master, grow your village, recruit guild members, and conquer dungeons. Every decision you make becomes your own chronicle.”

As for what makes it a game within a game, you’ll fulfil the role of a developer who has been pulled inside their own game.

It’s up to you to determine how this fourth-wall breaking experience plays out.

Growing your village will include tending to activities like farming and alchemy, with players also able to recruit the help of guild members with certain tasks.

There are 120 unique guild members you can encounter.

You’ll want to recruit a wide array of professions; some will specialise in cooking, for example, whilst others will be better at smithing or fishing.

Players will also need to clear dungeons which ultimately lead to huge raid battles.

Again, you don’t need to go this alone with your guild members helping you out.

Creator Chronicles is believed to be launching in 2025, although an exact date is not available.

You can now try out a free demo, though, which offers around two hours of early gameplay content where you can reach up to level 20.

As for dungeons, well, the demo grants access to four which I’d say is a nice amount; just enough to see if Creator Chronicles is for you.

Players already seem to be enjoying what’s on offer.

“This is probably one of, if not the best game I’ve played in a while,” reads one example.

I will just warn you that Creator Chronicles has used generative AI tools to develop “some in-game art resources”, as I know that’ll put some people off.

If you do like what the indie title has to offer though, that free demo is available to sample on Steam, plus you can wishlist the game to be kept up to date on its progress.

I totally agree! The nostalgia factor is definitely a big draw, but I think the simplicity of pixel graphics also allows for more creative storytelling and unique character designs. It’s great to see how many new RPGs are embracing this style!
