Voidling Bound may not yet have surfaced on your radar, but this new June launch is impressing players with its Pokémon inspired twist on the third-person shooter formula.
That sounds a little grisly, but I assure you that Voidling Bound is wholesome and fun.
Developed by Hatchery Games and available on PC storefront Steam, Voidling Bound sees you step into the shoes of a space wrangler.
You’ll be tasked with overcoming “bubonic swarms” and “pestilent bosses” on a lush series of planets that have become overrun by corruption.
Once you’ve restored balance to an area, you’ll be able to take control of Pokémon-esque creatures called Voidlings.
From there, you can send Voidlings into battle, pursue their evolution paths, upgrade their abilities, and hatch new offspring.
“Shoot, slash, slam, and blast your way through battles,” devs note.
“Evade, block, or parry incoming attacks. Sprint, jump, and dash across diverse biomes and planets. Charge and unleash devastating ultimate abilities to defeat the most challenging foes.”

As you can actually embody your Voidlings on the battlefield, there’s a great variety of attacks players can make use of adding a perfect sense of breadth to the game.
There’s no set evolution path for your Voidlings either as there is in something like Pokémon; you can actually choose from a number of paths, determining the sorts of attacks they’ll have.
ICYMI, here are some of the week’s other free Steam highlights:
- Steam’s Latest 100% Rated Free Game Hailed As Perfect Aid To Relax
- Steam Free Game Is New Sequel To A Series That’s Been Going Since 1997
- Steam Gains Free Taster For $60 Highly-Anticipated FPS Sequel
Skill points can be attributed to strength, vitality, essence, recuperation, and agility.
You’ll also need to harvest and locate various resources as you set about restoring the corrupted sci-fi worlds you visit.
All of your Voidlings, when not travelling with you, will be situated in the game’s vivarium where you can breed new additions.
For you completionists, there’s a handy collection guide so you know when you’ve got all of the available Voidlings. You can even track which genes you’ve collected if you want to formulate your own Voidling.
There’s a roguelike mode too called The Abyss for those looking to up the challenge.
