Saw Is The Next Horror Series To Be Turned Into A Multiplayer Game

Saw: Genesis was revealed–apparently prematurely–on Steam today, and it’s a 3v1 multiplayer horror game published by Bloober Team, the studio behind Cronos: The New Dawn and the remake of Silent Hill 2. With Jigsaw seated in the front row for Summer Game Fest, presumably it’ll be shown on Geoff Keighley’s big screen before the show is over.

The listing describes the game as something like The Outlast Trials, only it’ll pit three players versus one sadistic “Judge” who has littered the area with traps that would make Jigsaw proud.

Me looking for a co-op group: “I want to play a game.”

Set decades prior to the movies, Saw: Genesis takes place following World War I. Players who take on the role of the Judge can customize their approach to building their deadly labyrinths. It’s said that the Judge is more vulnerable than the “killer” side of other asymmetrical horror games, and so they must use their perks and traps to control the match, including an “Accomplice” who can be summoned–which seems to be in the form of an enemy threat who chases the other players.

In addition to Bloober Team acting as publisher, it’s co-developed by Broken Mirror Games, whose only Steam credit is this game, and Anshar Studios, a team that’s worked on past Bloober projects like Observer: Redux and the Layers of Fear remake/reimagining.

According to its Steam page, the game will launch first in early access, though no timetable is mentioned.
