Marvel’s Wolverine lets you disable gory effects

Unlike the games centered on Spider-Man, Insomniac Games will emphasize violence in Marvel’s Wolverine. It must be said that the legendary X-Man doesn’t pull any punches when it comes to slicing up his enemies.

So, expect some pretty gory sequences, complete with dismemberment. The American studio embraces this extreme aspect but will allow players to choose the experience that suits them best.

In an interview with IGN, director Mike Daly reiterated his desire to “bring the Wolverine fantasy to life”. Violence was therefore integrated into the project from the start to depict realistic and believable events in the game. However, in order to appeal to a wider audience, Insomniac decided to add a feature that allows players to turn off the gore effects.

“All that being said, we know that it’s not for everyone, and because we knew this was going to be a big part of the game from the beginning, we also implemented an accessibility feature to turn off gore.

It’s clearly integrated into the game in a lot of different ways, and so it’s a nuanced feature that is very selective about what we show, what we censor, turning off blood and things like that, just in order to make it more palatable to people who don’t really want to have that part of the experience.”
