On May 27, Obsidian discontinued sales of The Outer Worlds. Instead of the base game, the Spacer’s Choice Edition is now the only version available for purchase. Fortunately, the studio had set up a free upgrade system.
As a result, owners of a digital copy of the original title should be able to obtain The Outer Worlds: Spacer’s Choice Edition at no additional cost. The procedure has not yet been confirmed for owners of the physical game. In any case, numerous issues have been reported by players.
On social media, Obsidian admitted to making errors due “to how entitlement work on consoles.” Indeed, PS4 and Xbox One users realized they must purchase the expansion pass to access the upgrade. This effectively negates the free nature of the offer.
The developer is now asking anyone who purchased The Outer Worlds on PS4 and Xbox One between April 30 and May 27, 2026, to contact support to resolve the issue. Players have, of course, been quick to call the promotion a scam.

It’s interesting to see how the changes to The Outer Worlds: Spacer’s Choice Edition are affecting players. While free upgrades are usually exciting, it’s unfortunate that there are significant issues. Hopefully, the developers can resolve these problems soon for a smoother experience.
