Elden Ring And Crimson Desert In Co-Op Soulslike You Can Play Now

This brand-new soulslike is what would happen if Elden Ring and Crimson Desert had a baby, and it’s out now.

Both Elden Ring and Crimson Desert will likely go down in history as decade-defining games and the latter is on track for a Game Award nomination despite some difficulties around its launch.

The success both titles have garnered is something almost all game developers strive to achieve themselves, and this new Steam game feels like the best of both worlds.

A Steam Soulslike That’s Tailor-Made For Multiplayer

The latest title worth adding to your backlog is called Serpent’s Gaze. It’s a multiplayer souslike with roguelike elements where a team of four players descend into perilous tombs, slay bosses and try to make it to the end.

You don’t have to play it with other people as it supports single-player just fine but you’ll obviously have the best experience when you’re joined by some friends.

The Elden Ring comparison is pretty clear as the FromSoftware game had a solid multiplayer element. It was expanded upon for Elden Ring: Nightreign but the latter’s gameplay just didn’t click for some gamers.

Serpent’s Gaze is also set within a massive, sprawling desert. Under the baking sun, the shimmering sands almost take on other colours, like crimson… Jesting aside, the game does have some striking environments, whether you’re above ground or below.

The game launched on 25 May in early-access but there’s no free demo, unfortunately. If you fancy giving it a go, you’ll need to grab a copy for yourself but luckily, it’s not expensive.

Given that it’s an early-access game, there’s probably a lot of content and alterations yet to come. We’re hoping for more bosses and enemies to fight of course but provided the game does well a port to the Xbox Series X/S and PlayStation 5 would be nice to see too.

So far, the reception from players has been positive as Serpent’s Gaze is currently sitting on a “Mostly Positive” rating on Steam. That’s just with 25 reviews though so that could always change as more players try it out.

“I think this game has a lot of potential despite being a bit rough around the edges”, began one of the user reviews. “The combat loop is very satisfying and the amount of customisation options when going into a run is fun to play around with.”

Another review said: “Very addictive game, if you enjoy challenges, then give this a try. Level design is clear and well laid out. Combat and upgrades make it a different challenge everytime which is great. Would recommend.”

Serpent’s Gaze is definitely one to keep an eye on, especially if you’re in the mood for another soulslike anytime soon.
