007 First Light Has Sold 1.5 Million Copies in Its First 24 Hours

IO Interactive’s take on James Bond finally entered the light on May 27th when 007 First Light launched worldwide. Thus far, it seems to be a success for the developer, selling 1.5 million copies within the first 24 hours.

On Steam, the action-adventure peaked at 68,477 concurrent players – a massive step down from Hitman 2’s 361,001 (which interestingly occurred in December 2018, a month after its launch). While the heftier system requirements may be partly to blame, it’s also possible that players are simply waiting to see how it pans out.

After all, even if it’s based on a world-famous character, this is technically a brand new IP, that too an origin story rather than following an established film. And even if the Steam numbers don’t seem all that impressive, it’s all the more likely to have performed better on consoles.

Regardless, strong critical acclaim has ensured that 007 First Light stands out as one of the best games of 2026 thus far. You can check out our review, where we gave it a nine out of ten, but keep in mind that this is only the beginning. IO Interactive is known for strong post-launch support, and it’s already indicated plans to add more content to the TacSim. Head here for further details.
