The Witcher 3 is getting a surprise DLC expansion. The classic video game will once again be getting more content, with CD Projekt Red confirming a release date window for its new DLC.
The Witcher 3 DLC will skip last-gen platforms including PS4
CD Projekt Red announced that a third expansion to The Witcher 3 is officially in the works. The new expansion, titled Songs of the Past, will release sometime in 2027. Unlike past expansions, the new DLC won’t be on previous generation consoles and instead will only be playable on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
The new DLC is being co-developed by CD Projekt Red and Fool’s Theory, a studio founded by former CD Projekt Red developers that is also helping CD Projekt Red as a co-developer on the The Witcher remake that was announced in 2022.
According to CD Projekt Red, Songs of the Past will once again put players back in the shoes of Geralt of Rivia, for “a brand new adventure.” It’s unclear exactly what the story will be centered on, but fans have speculated that it could help lead into The Witcher 4, which was shown off with a cinematic trailer in 2024 at the Game Awards.
The Witcher is one of the most iconic series in all of video games. Based on the books of the same name by Polish writer Andrzej Sapkowski, the series began in 2007 with the first game, while the third released in 2015. Despite releasing over a decade ago, The Witcher 3 remains one of the most critically acclaimed games ever and has sold over 60 million copies and won more than 250 awards.
