Despite projecting lower console sales for the next year, Nintendo is preparing around 20 million Switch 2 units through to March 2027.Ā
Nintendoās latest financial results may have shown a lot of positives, especially when it comes to sales of PokĆ©mon titles, but it was clouded by the announcement of a price increase for the Switch 2.Ā
As announced earlier this month, Nintendo is set to increase the price of Switch 2 consoles in Japan, the US, Canada, and Europe due to āchanges in market conditionsā.
While we still donāt know the revised price in the UK, in Europe the consoleās cost is set to go up by ā¬30 to ā¬499.99 from September 1, 2026. In Japan, higher prices will come into effect from next week.Ā
Due to this increase, and following the launch period surge, Nintendo said it expected to sell 16.5 million Switch 2 consoles in the next financial year, which runs until April 2027. This is down from the 19.86 million it sold in the last fiscal year.Ā
Despite these downward projections, it seems Nintendo is secretly confident of selling a lot more.

According to Bloomberg, the company has asked suppliers to āassembleā 20 million Switch 2 consoles through March 2027. This is roughly 20% more than the public sales outlook it released earlier this month.Ā
While the report states this production volume is not final, and may be revised depending on demand, it suggests Nintendo is confident that it can sell above its initial projections despite the price hike.Ā
Speaking to the publication, industry analyst Serkan Toto said: āFor them, there is no real downside in lowballing numbers first and then surpassing them later. The just-finished fiscal year is a good example.ā
The stealth production increase might suggest a confidence in its software line-up for the rest of the year too. Nintendo recently launched Yoshi And The Mysterious Book, but it also has Star Fox, Rhythm Paradise Groove, Splatoon Raiders, The Duskbloods, and Fire Emblem: Fortuneās Weave for the rest of 2026.Ā
Additionally, rumours suggest Nintendoās big Christmas game for Switch 2 this year is a remake of The Legend Of Zelda: Ocarina Of Time, which, if true, would certainly be a significant system seller.
