PS6: Sony may reduce RAM and memory bus size to keep prices in check

Sony made this announcement during the presentation of its latest financial results. Memory shortages and component prices are impacting the launch schedule of the PS6, which has yet to be decided.

To prevent the consoleโ€™s price from skyrocketing, the Japanese manufacturer may have to make concessions. According to insider KeplerL2, the only possible reductions will be in RAM and memory bus size. Thus, the PS6 could opt for 24 GB of RAM instead of the 32 GB initially planned. The memory bus, meanwhile, could be reduced to 128 bits.

ยซ I think the only reasonable cutbacks are keeping SSD at 1TB and (if they are really desperate) cutting down memory bus to 128-bit and VRAM to 24GB.

This would represent a $60 reduction in bill of materials cost at current G7 prices, and the SoCโ€™s performance would be improved by recovering defective components from the memory controllers. ยป

Of course, nothing has been officially confirmed by Sony yet.
