Rune Dice Drops Playable Demo On Consoles

A demo for upcoming indie game Rune Dice is now available on consoles, with a full release only weeks away.

Rune Dice is a dice-based roguelike with deckbuilding elements developed by Smart Raven Studio and published by Kwalee. While a demo was already available on PC, eager players on consoles have the opportunity to try out the game’s demo ahead of its May 19 release for Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, and PC via Steam.

The core gameplay of Rune Dice is exactly what you might expect, tossing dice. Different dice can be brought to battle with powerful combination effects and chain combos upon certain rolls. Something pretty unique about Rune Dice is the dice rolling system, as you actually have to aim your throws for dice to collide and combine together in a neat physics system.

Other tools include relics that offer enhancements and runes that can be used to directly manipulate the battlefield, for an ever deeper opportunity to bolster dice combos and their power with plenty of strategic combinations. Every piece of kit available to the player is scattered across the game world, obtainable from drops, shops, or ancient altars where you can risk dice for certain upgrades.

There is also a class system, with eight different heroes offering different dice combinations like poison attacks for Rogue and lightning storms for Mage. Building towards these combos should be important in the procedurally generated map, crawling with enemies, mini-bosses, and bosses.

While this is Smart Raven Studio’s first title to release, UK-based Kwalee has a decent run as a publisher, serving as an ambassador for the non-profit organization Women in Games and winning Best Publisher at the TIGA Awards in 2022. A few of their highlight titles include In Sink: A Co-op Escape Adventure and Don’t Stop, Girlypop!
