The Elder Scrolls VI and Crimson Desert have stiff competition with this brand-new Steam RPG.
Well, when we say that The Elder Scrolls VI has competition, perhaps Skyrim would be the best comparison, because we have no clue when the highly anticipated Bethesda RPG will be released. After all, it was announced at E3 2018, and we’ve barely heard a peep since.
Regardless, despite the continued absence of The Elder Scrolls VI, there are a plethora of fantastic fantasy RPG alternatives to keep us busy until Bethesda decides to provide us all with new information. One such game is the newly released and hit sensation, Crimson Desert.
The Elder Scrolls VI Meets Crimson Desert
Speaking of The Elder Scrolls VI and Crimson Desert, if you’re a fan of both, as well as survival RPGs, then this new Steam release called Valorborn might be worth your consideration. It appears to be a non-linear RPG, both in terms of story and exploration.
“Dive into a living medieval fantasy sandbox RPG where the world moves with or without you and factions rise and fall,” reads the synopsis of the game. “Become a thief, hunter, or sellsword, survive alone or with a party, and shape your story in a fully enterable world where every building, cave, and road hides opportunity or danger.”
Valorborn Is Not Without Its Issues
However, despite its promising gameplay trailer and concept, Valorborn has faced criticism from Steam users, most of whom say that the game feels unpolished, despite having some potential.
To be fair to Valorborn, it only launched on Steam early access last month, so hopefully, the indie developers at Laps Games will have plenty of time to address and fix player feedback.
“Valorborn should not have reached early access yet,” said Yeahs. “At this stage, the game feels extremely raw and unfinished. It is often compared to Kenshi, but honestly, it is nowhere near that level in terms of depth, systems, or usability.”
On the flip side, Kiyo wrote, “Despite being in an early state of development, this game shows great potential! Great for anyone looking for a new Kenshi-like game, and looking forward to seeing how this game develops further.”
Valorborn has an RRP of ÂŁ20.99/$24.99, so unless you really want to play this game during early access to help shape its development, it might be worth holding out until further fixes have been made and perhaps when the price has dropped a little.
