Build A Rocket Boy seems to be slowly falling apart. A new wave of layoffs apparently hit the studio last week. The critical and commercial failure of MindsEye has clearly taken a heavy toll on the company.
According to Kotaku, which cites two separate sources, up to 170 employees may have been laid off. As a result, the company’s total workforce is now approximately 80 people, down from 800 at its peak in 2024. Several now-former employees in QA, audio, and level design have confirmed their departure. This is also the case for those in charge of social media and community management.
The future of Build A Rocket seems more uncertain than ever. We still have no news about Everywhere, the social platform that was supposed to allow users to create and experience a variety of experiences.
