Shuhei Yoshida’s history at PlayStation is fairly well known. Having led the company’s internal studios from 2008 to 2019, he then took charge of independent games before leaving the Japanese firm in January 2025.
During an interview, Yoshida revisited the reasons behind this sudden change in position. While he had already spoken about this in the past, the former president of PlayStation Studios once again didn’t miss the chance to take a swipe at Jim Ryan. At the time, Ryan was the company’s CEO.
Shuhei Yoshida reiterated that he was ousted from PlayStation Studios by Ryan because he refused to follow his directives and had “asked to do some ridiculous things”. He was consequently reassigned to the division dedicated to indie games, a role he says he “really enjoyed”.
