After over 10 years of fans clamouring for anything, Bloodborne is finally coming back, but as an animated film produced by YouTuber JackSeptic Eye, not a video game.

After over 10 years since its release, Sony is finally returning to FromSoftware’s Bloodborne but not in the way fans hoped, or thought was possible. At CinemaCon 2026, Sony revealed they are making an R-rated animated feature film based on the 2015 fan-favourite title, and it will be produced by YouTuber JackSepticEye.

The announcement came completely out of left field, as no other details were confirmed about the newly announced film (including whether it would even take place in Yharnum, the setting of the video game) and there were no announcements on the film’s director, screenwriter, voice cast or release date. President of Sony Pictures Entertainment Motion Picture Group, Sanford Panitch, promised during the CinemaCon presentation that the film will be faithful to legacy of Bloodborne, which follows a Hunter who goes up against some of the worst abominations imaginable.

The Bloodborne animated film is produced by PlayStation Productions, Lyrical Animation, and YouTuber (and self-professed fan of the game) Seán McLoughlin, aka JackSepticEye. Lyrical Media is co-financing with Sony Pictures. JackSepticEye took to Reddit to make a statement about the film, and he writes, “I am producing this project and you have no idea how incredibly excited I am to finally be able to talk about it!! I am going to do everything in my power to make this the BEST Bloodborne adaptation possible. Not only is it my favourite game ever made but I know how truly passionate the fans of this game are and how much hunger they have for more of it.”

It’s worth mentioning fans aren’t too pleased with the decision. Directly under JackSepticEye’s Reddit post, fans have taken to the comments to voice their displeasure, and some even call it “an April Fool’s joke.” One fan writes, “Sony will do literally anything else but release Bloodborne on PC,” and others agree, saying that they wanted the 2015 title to run on PC and at 60fps, and fans have now drawn an invisible (hopeful) link between this film announcement and a potential 60fps update.

It’s also worth noting that another YouTuber, Markiplier, recently dropped his first feature film titled Iron Lung in theatres and it performed remarkably well at the box office with a modest budget. Sony may be attempting to capture that YouTube lightning-in-a-bottle at the box office once again, as McLoughlin himself has no film credentials (outside of shorts on YouTube and being a fan of Bloodborne). Other fans are cautiously optimistic, wishing the creator luck on the new endeavour.

The Bloodborne animated film has only been announced, and more information will undoubtedly come out soon.
